Philosophy
Yoga is a philosophy, practice, and tradition of liberation — liberation from the limitations created in the mind. The yoga tradition tells us that our true, natural, and inborn state is one of clarity, happiness, interconnection, and compassion.
It is very easy to lose touch with this as we go about our daily lives!
In yoga, what we practice is life
With yoga, we create scenarios in a safe and playful environment that prepare us for life. We can take a look at what we usually do in a challenging moment (for example, chaturanga dandasana) or while seeking balance (tree pose). Slowing down to that moment, when our reaction is happening or about to happen, we begin to be more conscious about the pathways that we choose.
In different moments, this might mean that we stop pushing, let go of inhibition and resistance, or give something our all. At first we discover something on the mat, and very soon we find that we are able to apply these newly discovered attitudes in life, to the benefit of ourselves and others.
It's all about tapping into Nature
In this way, yoga enables us access the unlimited supply of inspiration and vitality that is the very make-up of our bodies, the planet, and the universe. Through continual practice, we cultivate the inquisitiveness, receptivity, and strength that it takes to look within, to experience the truth of our own goodness, and to embrace the inherent blessings and challenges of life.
